Pietro Ricci is a physicist and research fellow at the University of Florence, Department of Physics and Astronomy, where he is currently working on the development of a hyperspectral imaging system for real-time, multi-wavelength monitoring of brain metabolism and hemodynamics. Alongside his research, he is involved in undergraduate teaching within the Physics Laboratory course.
He obtained his PhD at the European Laboratory for Nonlinear Spectroscopy (LENS), focusing on advanced optical methods for neuroscience, including enhanced light-sheet microscopy and AOD-based volumetric photostimulation to achieve all-optical control and monitoring of neuronal activity in zebrafish.
He then joined the University of Barcelona as a postdoctoral researcher, where he worked on photoacoustic and acousto-optic approaches for guiding light through scattering media. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with international research centers, including Femtonics Labs (Budapest) and University College London, where he held visiting positions. He has also contributed to several EU-funded projects in neurophotonics and biomedical imaging.
His research lies at the intersection of photonics, neuroscience, and imaging science, with a focus on experimental strategies for functional brain investigation.
