Liesbeth Thewissen, MD, PhD (°1978) graduated as a specialist in Pediatrics in 2008 at KU Leuven, Belgium. After a fellowship in neonatology in Leuven, Belgium and Utrecht, The Netherlands, she was appointed as a staff member in the neonatal intensive care unit at the University Hospitals Leuven, Belgium, in 2011. One of the major research interests in this quaternary referral center is neonatal neurology and advanced neonatal neuromonitoring. Dr. Thewissen research domain includes near infrared spectroscopy derived cerebral oxygenation and cerebrovascular autoregulatory capacity in the newborn to understand the role of pathology and drugs on the vulnerable neonatal cerebral circulation. She was involved as a local PI for the multicenter Hypotension in Preterms trial and the SafeBoosC-III trial. She is Neonatal Life Support instructor facilitating simulation and debriefing. She is a clinical lecturer at KU Leuven and UCLL, Leuven, Belgium and a board member of the Belgian Society of Neonatologists.
