Buehler, Pharm.D., Ph.D.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Professor of Pathology, University of Maryland School of Medicine, Center for Blood Oxygen\u00a0Transport and Hemostasis, Baltimore, Maryland<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I am a pharmacologist and toxicologist, and I utilize both applied and mechanistic approaches to understand aberrant red blood biology in acquired and genetic hematological disorders. In October of 2019 I moved my laboratory from the US FDA Center for Biologics Research and Review (after 15 years) to the U. of Maryland School of Medicine, Center for Blood Oxygen Transport and Hemostasis (CBOTH). I currently have a primary appointment in the Department of Pathology at UMB and as an adjunct faculty in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Colorado Anschutz in the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Research Laboratory. <u>My laboratory\u2019s research focuses include:<br \/>\n<\/u> <strong>(1)<\/strong> Studying oxygen homeostasis and development of methods to optimize tissue oxygen measurements;<br \/>\n<strong>(2)<\/strong> Evaluating hemoglobin oxidative biochemistry associated with red blood cell dysfunction in genetic, acquired anemias and medical interventions (e.g., Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB) and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)).<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;3\/4&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]Paul W.
