She completed her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Calgary, where she developed a multimodal NIRS-MRI approach to monitor oxygen metabolism in mouse models of neurological disorders. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-teams=\"true\">Her current research focuses on applying NIRS and MRI in people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) to explore the role of brain hypoxia (low oxygen) in disease progression and to examine how physiological changes\u2014such as inflammation, white matter damage, and altered cerebral perfusion\u2014contribute to MS pathology and progression. Dr. Hashem is a recipient of the Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship, the Eyes High International Doctoral Scholarship, and the T.
